USS Liberty: Israel Did Not Intend to Bomb the Ship

Bamford: Describes the attack on the U.S.S. Liberty as “unprovoked.”

Fact: He completely ignores that the United States had publicly announced to the world at the United Nations Security Council only two days before June 8, 1967 that it had no warships within hundreds of miles of the combat zone. The chain of reactions were started by an Israeli army report of explosions at El Arish. Since Israel controlled the air and the ground, they made the assumption that they were being shelled from the sea and a warship was in eye view. In view of the U.S. public announcement, it seems more logical for the Israelis to have assumed that a haze grey warship sailing within eye view of the ongoing combat was an enemy vessel rather than a U.S. ship.”

What the fraud and liar Cristol doesn’t mention by deliberate omission.

Fact:    The USS  Liberty was in international waters.  International law is clearly on  the Liberty’s side to go unimpeded in safety. They were not a threat to the Israelis.  It was a spy ship but it was an “unprovoked” attack.

Fact:  The USS Liberty had no ship armaments minus 4 .50 caliber machine guns to resist boarders,  it had no ship’s  guns.  (Judge: Those are the longey pointed pipe things that ships have to have to fire projectiles at a target.) When Cristol  claims it is not beyond belief that a  “haze grey warship sailing within eye view of the ongoing combat was an enemy vessel rather than a U.S. ship.”

Fact: Nor BTW did the El Qusir have the capability required for shore bombardments,  the 1920′s rusted 40 horse carrier tramp steamer that which Israel later said was the ship they mistook for the USS Liberty which was sitting in port and never left. Neither ships had the means.  Cristol know this but he never mentions it.  Is he an expert or a professional liar?  We all know that all warships entering and leaving any enemy port would probably be observed  by Israeli intelligence.  Nobody said Israel was incompetent except the Israelis when it comes to the USS Liberty.

Fact:  There was never any ship to shore bombing at El Arish  by anyone at any time, anywhere of Israeli forces to begin with.  Not by Egypt.  Not during the Six Day war.  This is a manufactured PR excuse and lie used by Israel to explain away their deliberate attack on Liberty.  The fact that Israel would use blowing up ammo dumps as “shore bombardment”  from enemy warships is incredulous.
