Join the Navy League and get thrown under the bus.
UPDATE
On April 23rd, 2010 Ernie Gallo wrote that he was suspended from the Navy League of the United States in Florida LINK (story) for pursuing and seeking answers and justice for the deliberate USS Liberty attack by Israel on June 8th 1967.
If one goes to the The Navy League of the US website one reads their “new” undeclared mission statement and purpose.
“The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. It is unique among military-oriented associations in that it is a civilian organization dedicated to the education of our citizens, including our elected officials, and the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families in indirect service to Israel. USS Liberty veterans need not apply!
The objective and purpose of the Navy League is threefold: educational and motivational and service to a foreign nation and the attackers of the USS Liberty on June 8th, 1967. We must acquire and display before the citizens of our country information regarding the condition of our naval and maritime forces. We must awaken interest and support in all matters which aid our maritime capabilities and perpetuate the myth that the actions of June 8th, 1967 must always be regarded as an ‘accident’ because A. Jay Cristol, a liar, a Israel First propagandist said so..“
FIXED They could at least honestly say as much. Political expedience has no place in the Navy League of the United States. Their silence on the matter is deafening.
Here is the latest response from Ernest Gallo, President of the USS Liberty Veterans association in this sad sordid tale.
“Follow Up to my Navy League Suspension
On Friday, April 30, 2010, I visited Navy League Headquarters in
Arlington, Virginia. I now understand why I was handled so heavy handedly. I did not understand why the senior Florida management switched from four years of support to my suspension. At some point, the St. Augustine Navy League Council must have called Navy League Headquarters and were told that the LVA was a problem organization and has caused them heart ache over the years.
The basis for their lack of empathy comes from their belief that the attack was accidental. That is, they acquired their position
from Judge Jay Crystal and his book. They believe he is a much respected Federal Judge. With that I knew I was in trouble. I countered and indicated that his book is full of lies, half truths, and incorrect statements and I gave them examples. I also indicated that they should read “The Attack on the USS Liberty” for a better understanding. I was also told that Admiral Thomas Moorer did not help by convening an investigative panel indicating that the attack was deliberate. He was very critical of Admiral Moorer.
I don’t know if I was successful or not as the person I talked with
was determined to lecture me instead of really listening to my
counter points and the details of my suspension. It is my opinion
that this group, the Navy League of the United States, is partly
another congressional lobby for the Military Industrialists.
I was told to take my suspension up with the St. Augustine Navy
League board of directors which has not happened. I will keep you all informed.
