The USS Liberty Memorial was unveiled at Ontario Beach Park Saturday.
The memorial pays tribute to, and honors the 34 men who lost their lives aboard the Liberty during the six-day war.
The vessel was brought down by an Israeli sea and air attack 1967.
One veteran we spoke with said he’s happy that after 43 years there’s finally a place to go where he can mourn his fallen comrades.
“They should be honored just like everybody else, any other war veteran, and history is still silent on them,” said USS Liberty Veteran, John Hiankowski.
Both the Israeli and U.S. governments issued reports that stated the attack was a mistake due to Israeli confusion about the identity of the USS Liberty.
Whether it was a mistake or not remains unknown.
